Wednesday Giveaway - Understanding Four Views on Baptism

Categories Theology

Four Views on BaptismAlthough most – but not all – Christian traditions practice baptism, there remains much disagreement about how exactly the sacrament should be performed, not to mention theological disagreement about what it might accomplish or mean.

In light of these disagreements pastors, theologians, students, and laity are often left to ask questions such as: What is the significance of water baptism? Who should be baptized? Is infant baptism scriptural? Which is the proper baptismal mode: sprinkling, pouring, or immersion? Should people be rebaptized if they join a church that teaches a different form of baptism? Should baptism be required for church membership?

In today’s giveaway, Understanding Four Views on Baptism, four prominent views of baptism held by different branches of Protestantism – Baptist, Christian Church/Church of Christ, Lutheran, and Reformed – are explained, critiqued, and defended. The goal being to provide the reader with the best biblical, theological, and ecclesiological arguments behind each approach.

Wanting to avoid sparking a debate I will refrain from asking how your church baptizes, but will instead ask that you enter this week’s giveaway by telling us where your church typically performs baptisms.

Also, a bonus entry is available if you comment a second time letting us know that you shared a link to this giveaway on Facebook, Twitter, or your blog.
