Forgiveness of sins. Salvation through faith alone. Eternal life after death. These beliefs are common to Christians around the world. But church leaders around the globe can still offer unique perspectives on biblical teaching, according to Dr. Samuel M. Nqewa, editor of the African Bible Commentary Series (abc) and author of its volume 1 & 2 Timothy and Titus.

All the contributors to abc are English- or French-speaking African scholars. Each adheres to the statement of faith of the Association of Evangelicals in Africa. Each commentary in abc contains case studies conducted in Africa, illustrations from Africa, and brief articles that expand on the practical application of the text.

In 1 & 2 Timothy and Titus, Nqewa provides the circumstances and intentions of the writings, and offers a biographical sketch of Paul.

The ABC series is arranged to facilitate pastors’ sermon preparation. In easy-to-understand language, Ngewa addresses the problem of weak church leadership. He then instructs pastors how to preach on such topics as the roles of elders, godly women, care of the poor, and the importance of sound doctrine. He provides six case studies from his own experience to illustrate how to interact with widows, leaders, elders, other pastors and children, as well as how to work together for change.
