About the NIV Application Commentary Series
Where most Bible commentaries take you on a one-way trip from our world to the world of the Bible, this commentary series takes you on a round trip, helping you to communicate the message for our present-day context. Each passage is treated in three sections:

1. Original Meaning Understand the main ideas of each passage within its historical, literary, and cultural contexts. This section also includes helpful information on the meaning of biblical words, grammar, and syntax.

2. Bridging Contexts This section highlights the "timely and timeless" aspects of each passage. For example, when Paul warned the Galatians about the consequences of circumcision (Gal. 5:25), circumcision is not Paul’s primary concern (cf. 5:6). So what is Paul really concerned about? This section will help you find out.

3. Contemporary Significance Explore a variety of contexts in which the biblical passage might be applied today. This section will alert you to any problems or difficulties you might encounter in seeking to apply the passage, noting when Christians disagree on the passage’s interpretation, and helping you think through the issues. This section doesn't seek to provide ready-made sermon materials, but rather tools, ideas, and insights that will help you communicate God’s Word with power. Learn more at Accordance site
