(Can't see the video? Watch it here)
Over the rest of the summer we're exploring key questions and themes surrounding Paul's letter to the Philippians with guide Lynn Cohick, author of the Philippians commentary in the ground-breaking Story of God Bible Commentary series.
Today we explore one of Paul’s more well-known phrases:
"To live is Christ, to die is gain.”
In these words she says “You can sense this incredible power, and a sense of victory.”
But what does Paul mean?
As Cohick explains, while he was writing these words Paul was in prison. And when he says “to live is Christ,” he’s not saying what some might think he’s saying.
Instead, “In his present life, he’s not apart from Christ and his sufferings are not purposeless. They all serve to exalt Christ.”
Watch Cohick fully explore Paul’s powerful declaration, and then add her resource to your library to better engage Paul’s full letter yourself.
