My Advice to Students — Grudem Says Seminarians Should Do These 4 Things
As you may have noticed over the past several months of our series, there is no shortage of advice from seasoned biblical scholars. And that's a good thing, because let's face it: We can use all the advice we can get when embarking on the unique journey of a seminarian.
Yet standing out among the crowd is the sage wisdom from Dr. Wayne Grudem, professor of Theology and Biblical Studies at Phoenix Seminary and author of the seminal work Systematic Theology. Perhaps that's because he is more seasoned than many of those who've shared so far, in terms of experience and scope of career. Or maybe it's because of the unique set of 4 important, helpful bits of advice he shares in the video below.
In our video today he dons the role of helpful mentor who wants to help the next generation of pastors and thinkers finish the seminary race well and strong. And how can you run this race in a way that ensures your victory? By doing these 4 things:
- Get involved in a local church. "Be sure you have some involvement in a local church where you are giving back something of what you're learning."
- Keep your personal life with God strong. "Do not neglect your private time of Bible reading and prayer everyday, whether in the morning or evening or sometime during the day."
- Give time to your spouse. "Even if you don't have that much time to study, God will honor you in this area, too."
- Memorize scripture. "Because the scripture that I memorized before I went to seminary, I found that it was coming back and helping me again and again in ministry situations but also in seminary learning situations."
I'm sure you'll agree that every seminarian should do these 4 things in order to successfully traverse the well-worn path of seminarian.
