A Comprehensive Greek Course for Beginners: "Basics of Biblical Greek Video Lectures" By Bill Mounce
Six years ago I was two weeks into my M.Div. program wondering, "What on earth have I gotten myself into!"—mostly thanks to Greek I. Sometimes I still ask that question when I'm preparing sermons trying my darndest to parse and conjugate verb forms, figure out noun genders, and translate those pesky participial phrases.
Enter the venerable Dr. Bill Mounce, the professor many of us relied upon during that first year of seminary, and continue to rely upon to help maintain our Greek now that we're out. Up until now, however, that help has come through flash cards and Greek instructional manuals. As helpful as those resources have been, if you're like me sometimes you wish you could get a personal Mounce avatar to stand—and suffer!—along side you. Well, now you can.
Earlier this year Zondervan and Mounce launched a Basics of Biblical Greek Video Lectures series. It features an integrated approach to learning New Testament Greek, turning it into a natural process and showing from the start how an understanding of the language helps in better comprehending the New Testament.
I wish I would have had this set of lectures six years ago. Yes, the only reason I passed Greek I, Greek II, and three NT exegetical classes is because of Dr. Gary Meador's thoughtful lectures—not to mention his measured patience! But I would have excelled far more had I also been shepherded along by Dr. Mounce.
If you're a seminary student asking yourself the same question I did six years ago, this series is for you. If you're a pastor interested in a Greek refresher course, this series is for you. If you're a lay learner who has always wanted to dive into the original languages of the Bible, but haven't known how to proceed, this series is for you.
To give you a taste of the scope and depth of Mounce's complete Greek course, we're giving you access to a 26 minute lecture on the Greek alphabet and punctuation. Enjoy!
