Stan Gundry Announces Promotion of Katya Covrett to VP and Publisher of Zondervan Academic

I am pleased to announce that Katya Covrett has been promoted to VP and Publisher for the Zondervan Academic imprint, effective Monday, October 10, 2022.

Katya has been with Zondervan for 20 years, beginning her career with us as an entry-level editorial assistant. Throughout her tenure she has worked in numerous editorial roles, all of which focused on academic, ministry, and reference books. In 2014, she began leading the editorial direction for Zondervan Academic as executive editor, acquiring important academic works including The Story of God Bible Commentary series edited by Tremper Longman III and Scot McKnight, The New Testament in Its World by N. T. Wright and Michael F. Bird, and The Mission of God’s People by Christopher J. H. Wright. Last year, Katya was promoted to associate publisher where she has been managing the Zondervan Academic imprint.

Katya will oversee acquisitions for Zondervan Academic. In that role she will be responsible for shaping the list of new titles for each fiscal year; ensuring the right balance between the various biblical and theological disciplines, reference books, and commentaries; achieving appropriate gender and ethnic diversity among the authors for the imprint; discovering scholars with a promising publishing future; and maintaining the biblical, theological, and scholarly integrity of the imprint’s titles.

Katya holds a Bachelor of Arts in English linguistics from Khabarovsk State Pedagogical University, a Master of Theological Studies in systematic theology and biblical studies from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, and she is currently a PhD candidate in New Testament studies at the University of Aberdeen.

Katya has already proven herself in all these areas and she is greatly appreciated by her colleagues and the authors she works with. She brings extensive publishing experience, impressive academic credentials, and a passion for her work. I look forward to seeing the ways the Zondervan Academic imprint develops under her leadership.

Katya will continue to report to me. You can read the press release here.

Please join me in congratulating Katya on this well-earned recognition!

Best wishes,

Stanley N. Gundry
