Wednesday Giveaway - John Wesley's Teachings, Volume 3

The third book in Thomas Oden’s four volume series, John
Wesley’s Teaching Volume 3, was released
just this week, and is the featured title for our Wednesday Giveaway!

This latest addition to the series focuses on Wesley’s
writings concerning the practice of pastoral care. As Oden state in the excerpt
below, the role of the Holy Spirit became central to Wesley’s understanding of
the pastoral task. 

“The most conspicuous feature of Wesley’s work on the church
and pastoral care is his persistent focus on the church as a work of the Holy
Spirit. Everything follows from this premise. The Spirit is bringing into being
the communities of faith in Christ. The office of pastor is to guide the flock
toward the life that God the Spirit is creating.” 

In addition to the specifics of day-to-day pastoral care,
this volume also covers the sacraments, how the Church goes about choosing its
leaders, and evangelism.
