Wednesday Giveaway - Paul and Union with Christ

Categories New Testament

Paul and Union with Christ“in Christ” – two simple words, but loaded with exegetical
and theological importance.

Yet even though the theme of union with Christ is often discussed and
debated in contemporary Christian thought, particularly in Pauline studies, there
have been surprisingly few in-depth treatments of the concept.

In this week’s giveaway, Paul and Union with Christ, Constantine
Campbell provides a much needed thorough exegetical exploration of the
Greek phrases Paul used to express this idea of union, or participation, with
Christ.

Following a selective survey of the scholarly work on union
with Christ through the twentieth century to the present day, Campbell
carefully examines every occurrence of the phrases ‘in Christ’, ‘with Christ’,
‘through Christ’, ‘into Christ,’ and other related expressions, exegeting each
passage in context and taking into account the unique lexical contribution of
each Greek preposition.

From this he builds a holistic portrayal of Paul’s thinking,
engages contemporary theological discussions about union with Christ, and reflects
on the pastoral importance of the believer’s union with Christ.
