Wednesday Giveaway - Understanding World Religions
In a globalized world most of us have far more contact with people of other faiths than was once the case. Boundaries, territorial and social, have broken down, and now it is likely that our neighbors come from a wide range of religious traditions.
In such a context, it becomes vital that we work to properly understand what our neighbors - who we are called to love - believe, and why they believe the way they do. Stereotypes and vague conjecture will not do.
Thankfully there are resources out there to help us understand the religious beliefs of others, such as Irving Hexham’s Understanding World Religions, which is this week’s giveaway.
“Hexham’s introductory world religions text explores various religions under the broad categories of African Religions, the Yogic Traditions (including Buddhism), and the Abrahamic traditions. He presents an appreciative yet realistic approach, noting both the strengths and inherent problems of various world religions.” - from the description
Understanding World Religions is particularly helpful as it attempts to present each religion as its own adherents would understand it, including distinguishing between various traditions within each faith and why these differences matter.
There is only one copy available this week, as it’s a more expensive book. The giveaway will run through Thursday.
To enter, answer this question in the comment section below: What is the largest (non-Christian) religion where you live?
