The new Bible Backgrounds series on Koinonia
Since 2003 I have been serving as general editor of the Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary: Old Testament. I have had the privilege of working with an international team of 30 scholars who have expertise in Background and Comparative Studies. The result is a five volume work of over 3,000 pages and about 2,200 photos and maps that will be published later on this year.
Over the next year, I will be posting a blog entry once a week in a blog series we've simply called "Bible Backgrounds." The goal is to introduce readers to some of the content of ZIBBCOT volumes by means of excerpts drawn from throughout the work. My hope is that readers will see the importance that background and comparative studies bring to the modern interpreter.
Please make plans to join us every Friday. We start tomorrow with methodology. We’re going to ask the question, "Why bother?"
