Wednesday Giveaway - The Bible and the Land

Categories New Testament Old Testament

The Bible and the LandThe Christian faith is rooted in historical events; the stories of Jesus, Paul, and the early Church meant what they did only as part of a larger social, geographical, and historical context.

But as time marched on and Christianity found its home in the West, many Christians lost touch with the ancient world of the Bible. Cultural habits, the particulars of landscape, even the biblical languages soon became foreign at best to readers of the Bible. And the cost was enormous: Christians began missing the original images and ideas that shaped a biblical worldview.

In this week’s giveaway, The Bible and the Land, Gary Burge explores how the culture of the biblical world is presupposed in story after story of the Bible.

Using cultural anthropology, ancient literary sources, and a selective use of modern Middle Eastern culture, Burge reopens the ancient stories of the Bible and urges us to look at them through new lenses.

To enter the giveaway simply answer this question in the comments below: How has the land around you has shaped the way you see the world?
